Autism Diagnostic Evaluations

Jordan Psychological Assessment Center offers evaluations for autism for toddlers through adults. A developmental evaluation is included for toddlers and preschoolers, and a comprehensive psychological evaluation is included for children, teens, and adults. Multidisciplinary collaboration between our psychologists and speech therapist may be included in an evaluation, particularly for young children. All evaluations are tailored to each individual’s developmental level and specific needs.

Autism Follow-Up Clinic

After their child has been diagnosed with autism, many parents feel overwhelmed and unsure about what to do next.  Jordan Psychological Center is proud to offer an Autism Follow-Up Clinic to guide parents through next steps and to answer questions.  Our Clinic is run by Jana Moreno, an experienced speech therapist and counselor.  She can walk parents through the types of evidence-based therapies that are available, both in our office and around the Kansas City area, and help parents decide what services may be best for their child.  She is happy to share her extensive knowledge of available resources and autism research to help parents learn to navigate these confusing choices and to feel supported.

autism, language, and social skills programs

Jordan Psychological Center offers a variety of programs designed to address the needs of children with autism or with social language delays.  Currently, these include:

(MTW) More Than Words

(offered 3 times per year)

  • A parent training program for parents of toddlers with autism.

  • Eight 2.5-hour parent training classes, 4 videotaped parent-child interactions, and weekly homework.

  • Dedicated parents who want to add a therapist for their child to their duties.

(ABC) Attachment and Bio-Behavioral Catchup

  • A program designed to help parents nurture their child to reduce negative outcomes while increasing secure attachments.

  • Ten weekly one-hour sessions. During sessions, parents play with their child, and the ABC provider makes live in-the-moment comments to enhance their one-on-one interaction. Parents will receive positive feedback during sessions. The ABC provider reviews video clips with parents and comments on the parenting skills as they occur.

  • Children aged 6-24 months who have experienced early challenges and are at risk for behavioral, emotional, and psychological problems.

(BISC) Building Interactive Social Communication

  • Parent-centered training that utilizes everyday interactions of family life as a setting for early social learning. The therapist serves as a “guide on the side” to introduce new concepts and activity examples. The parent combines this information with knowledge of their child’s preferences to produce social interactions.

  • 18 one-hour sessions. Videotaping occurs so that the therapist and parent can watch highlights together. Each weekly session will target small steps to build the child’s ability to communicate socially.

  • Parents of children with social communication delays.

Pathways

  • A parent training program using behavior based strategies that are used in the child’s naturalistic environment to address the core deficits of autism. This program focuses on promoting attention and interaction.

  • The parent and therapist will work through a binder split up into 12 units. A session may include an optional video for progress reasons, reviewing previous content, going over new content, practicing/troubleshooting, and writing down the plan for the upcoming week of practice.

  • Parents of children with autism or suspected of having autism.
